Why do we need new power plants in Florida?

Progress Energy Florida last added baseload generation – baseload meaning large scale electricity sources generating 24/7 – in 1984 (CR5). Since that time, we’ve added more than 600,000 new customers.

Our projections indicate that in the next decade, demand for electricity in our service territory will grow by more than 25 percent. As the fourth-largest state, Florida ranks third nationally in per-capita energy consumption.
