Securing Florida's energy future through transmission improvements
The transmission network is the backbone of the electric system, continuously moving large amounts of electricity from power plants to communities. This system operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to meet the energy needs of our customers and the customers of other utilities throughout the state.
Our forecasts indicate that demand for electricity in our 35-county service territory will grow by more than 25 percent in the next decade. This growth and associated energy use requires long-term planning to ensure we can meet this demand.
Progress Energy Florida has identified the potential need to add about 200 miles of transmission lines across 10 counties to maintain reliability and to move power efficiently throughout the region and state.

Community Partnership for Energy Planning
Progress Energy Florida is committed to a transparent process as we begin identifying specific transmission needs in the 10-county region. As part of this process, we have initiated an innovative community outreach process called the Community Partnership for Energy Planning. The process involves a cross section of the local communities, including public officials, land-use planners, developers, businesses, chamber representatives, homeowners, environmentalists, and utility employees.
View detailed information and proposed route maps on the Community Partnership for Energy Planning (CPEP) page.
