What do I need to do to get the appropriate training?
- Finish high school. Take shop, mechanics, math, science or basic electronics classes if available.
- Maintain a clean criminal history to pass company background and drug screen.
- Stay in good physical shape.

If you think one of these jobs may be a good fit for you, you’ve got several options:
- Finish high school and apply for an entry-level position with a utility.
- Train for one year to 18 months before being promoted to the next level.
- Earn a degree from two year technical or community college with a craft/technical concentration. A two-year degree will reduce the time to promotion.
- Earn certification from a specialty program – ex. Maine Maritime, Southeastern Lineman Training Center. Training will reduce time to promotion, allowing for quicker progression.
- Gain experience through the armed forces (PAYS program – US Army). Relevant Military experience will reduce time to promotion.
