Peter Scott is chief financial officer of Progress Energy and is also president and CEO – Progress Energy Service Company. Scott oversees the Financial Services and Corporate Relations groups, as well as the Human Resources and Information Technology & Telecommunications departments. He joined Progress Energy (CP&L) in 2000 as chief financial officer.

Before joining Progress Energy, Scott was the founding president of Scott, Madden & Associates, Inc., a general management consulting firm. The firm served clients in a number of industries, including energy and telecommunications. In his consulting practice, Scott specialized in strategic planning and operations management.

Before founding Scott, Madden & Associates in 1983, Scott was a principal and partner in Theodore Barry & Associates, a Los Angeles-based consulting firm.

Scott is on the board of Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited and RTI International.  He is active in a number of civic and nonprofit organizations, including the N.C. Museum of Art Foundation Board, the Kenan-Flagler Business School Board of Visitors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Eckerd Youth Alternatives. He earned undergraduate and master's degrees in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
