What types of projects/programs does Progress Energy fund?
Corporate grants are primarily focused on education, economic development and the environment, although we also support other important community issues. The Progress Energy Foundation provides funding for specific issues, including:
- Education
- K-12 teacher quality
- K-12 math and science
- K-12 principal and superintendent leadership development
- Scholarships to institutions of higher education that support the company's recruiting strategy
- Economic Development
- Major community initiatives that support the company's economic development plans
- Environment
- Projects that protect the natural resources of our service areas
When are grant applications accepted?
Applications for corporate grants are accepted at any time and are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Foundation grants are also accepted at any time, but are reviewed according to the schedule below:
- Education (K-12 grants considered first quarter with a Feb. 1 deadline)
- Economic Development (grants considered second quarter with a May 1 deadline)
- Education (higher education grants considered fourth quarter with a Nov. 1 deadline)
- Environment (grants considered third quarter with an Aug. 1 deadline)
Does Progress Energy provide support to individual K-12 schools?
Due to limited grant funds, we are unable to provide grants to individual K-12 schools, whether public, private, charter or religious. Instead, we work at the county level, providing support to the school system or the county's education foundation.
What other types of requests are Progress Energy's grant programs unable to support?
Contributions are not generally provided to:
- For-profit organizations
- Individuals
- Organizations operating outside the Progress Energy service territory
- Programs that promote religious doctrines or exclude participants based on religion
- Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns
- Organizations whose primary purpose is influencing legislation
- Athletic, labor or fraternal groups
- Endowment funds
- Capital campaigns
Are nonprofits required to have a 501(c)(3) designation in order to apply for a grant?
Nonprofits applying for a foundation grant must be exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Nonprofits applying for a corporate grant are not required to be exempt under Section 501(c)(3).
Can I copy and paste information from a Word document into one of the application's text boxes?
Yes. You can copy information from an existing Word document and paste that copy into the appropriate text box in the application.
When I try to open the application, I receive an error message stating, "My browser is not configured to accept cookies." What should I do?
If you receive this error message, please contact a member of your IT staff. You may need to adjust your computer's settings in order to access the application.
I do not have all of the required documents in an electronic format. How can I submit them?
Please contact the grant staff via e-mail at grants@pgnmail.com. You will be contacted with instructions on how to forward these documents to Progress Energy.
