The Robinson plant is named for H. Burton Robinson, a native of South Carolina and former executive vice president of Carolina Power & Light.  The plant is located adjacent to the 2,250 acre Lake Robinson near Hartsville, SC.

The H. B. Robinson Plant is one of the country’s few electrical generating stations with side-by-side coal and nuclear plants.  Robinson coal-fired plant generates 174 megawatts of electricity.  It began operation in May 1960.  Robinson’s nuclear plant generates 710 megawatts of electricity.  It began commercial operation in March 1971.  The H.B. Robinson Plant generates enough electricity to power more than 400,000 homes.
