FAQ

Why is Progress Energy offering incentives as a part of the Energy Efficiency for Business Program?

The Energy Efficiency for Business Program is designed to encourage overall energy efficiency and energy-efficient building design among Progress Energy's non-residential customers. In turn, adoption of these programs will benefit area businesses, including industrial customers and governmental customers, by providing incentives to implement energy-saving measures.

Who is eligible to participate in the Energy Efficiency for Business programs?

All Progress Energy business customers including commercial, industrial and governmental are eligible to participate. Additional eligibility is program-specific to the applicable incentive programs. Additional details regarding incentive requirements are found on the corresponding incentive application.

Program Requirements

To qualify for the Energy Efficiency for Business Program:

  • The area of improvement must be on an approved rate schedule as listed in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Projects must involve a facility improvement that results in a sustained reduction in electrical energy usage (kWh).
  • Complete requirements and details for each incentive program must be met as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual.

How can businesses participate and apply for an incentive?

Once a project is identified, your business should submit a pre-approval application and when approved, proceed with installation. You are welcome to use any contractor for the energy-efficiency upgrade. When the project is finished and paid, simply submit all required documentation with the final application to the program for payment. The incentive applications are included under the 'Details' tab of this webpage.

What types of incentives are available?

The program offers incentives for energy-efficient equipment and technical assistance in new construction and retrofit projects. For equipment upgrades, customers can choose from an established "menu" of prescriptive measures or can design a custom project with verifiable energy savings. Complete information on all Energy Efficiency for Business Programs and incentives can be found on the ‘Details’ tab of this webpage. The Energy Efficiency for Business program will make the final determination of incentive levels for any project.

How can I find a contractor to perform my business' energy-efficiency upgrade work?

Progress Energy’s Energy Efficiency for Business program works with energy-efficiency equipment vendors, contractors, engineers, architects and energy services providers who have been educated on the Energy Efficiency for Business program. These Trade Allies play an important outreach role by helping businesses learn about Progress Energy’s energy-efficiency programs and incentives. They have been educated on the incentive programs offered and understand the program’s rules and processes.

If your business already has a contractor you work with, you are welcome to use them or go out for bid as usual. You may also check the list of program Trade Allies, which can be found and downloaded from the Trade Allies tab of this Web site.
