How EnergyWise works

When you enroll, we install smart, proven technology at your home that helps us temporarily reduce energy consumption if necessary. You can enroll any or all of the following appliances in your home: central air conditioner, heat pump with electric heat strip or electric water heater. 

When demand is critically high, EnergyWise cycles selected equipment off and on, usually no more than a few days per season.  During the summer season, EnergyWise is typically activated on air conditioners at 10- to 15-minutes intervals for up to four hours, typically between 1 and 7 p.m. During the winter season the program is typically activated for the emergency strip heat or water heater, between 6 and 9 a.m. and/or 5 and 9 p.m. The process is automatic and requires no effort from you.

Designed for your convenience

The program is typically activated only a few days during both the summer and winter, and is limited to weekdays – no weekends or holidays. You may choose up to two days per season to override the cycling of your air conditioner. And you may withdraw from the program any time without penalty.

Up to $75 credit as our thanks

Participation is free – plus you’ll receive a $25 annual credit on your electric bill for each type of appliance you enroll, up to $75 total, every year you remain on EnergyWise.

Please note: You must have qualifying electric appliances to participate: electric water heater(s), centrally-ducted electric air conditioning or heat pump with emergency heat strip.  The program is currently limited to homes that are owner-occupied.
