What is covered under the HomeWIRE service?
The HomeWIRE service covers 120/240 volt wiring, switches, outlets, ground fault circuit indicator (GFCI) receptacles, breakers, fuses, fuse/breaker panels, the meter housing that's attached to the home and the components inside it. To view the terms and conditions, click here.

Are light fixtures covered?
No, but we do offer a discounted rate of (15%) off the electrician's normal labor rate for non-covered repairs.

Does the service cover detached structures?
Yes, detached garages and residential dwellings such as a mother-in-law apartment, if on the same meter as the residential dwelling are covered.

Does HomeWIRE service cover damage from lightning?
No, acts of God, which include but are not limited to lightning are not covered.

Does the service cover pre-existing conditions?
No, if there are any electrical problems in the home at the time you request the HomeWIRE service, the problems are considered pre-existing. Pre-existing conditions are immediately eligible for a 15% discount off the electrician's normal labor rate.

What is not covered under the HomeWIRE service?
The HomeWIRE service does not cover building code violations, upgrades and new wiring within a residence, doorbells, intercoms, security system wiring, low voltage wiring and overloaded circuits. Non-covered repairs are completed at a 15% discount off contractors normal labor rates to the customer. To view the terms and conditions, click here.

Does my home qualify for HomeWIRE?
HomeWIRE is available to residential customers who live in a single family home, townhouse, condomuinium or mobile home. HomeWIRE is not available to apartment complexes or commercial properties. Rental homes with the same qualification as a residential customer require the owner to enroll and be billed on their residential account.

Is there a sales tax added to the $3.95 fee?
No, there is no sales tax on the HomeWIRE service.

Do I need to sign a contract or an agreement for the service?
No, paying your monthly electric bill which includes the monthly $3.95 charge for HomeWIRE service is your consent for the service.

What is the annual limit amount?
The annual limit amount is $500 per calendar year. The $500 limit is reset each year beginning in January. As repairs are completed during the year, the cost of the repair is deducted from the annual limit. If you go over the $500 limit during the year, you are required to pay the contractor directly for any overages, which are calculated at a 15% discount off the normal labor rate.

Is there a waiting period before I can request service?
Yes, there is an initial 30-day waiting period for covered work. Non-covered work (that is eligible for the 15% discount) is offered as soon as the customer enrolls in the service.

What is the 15% non-covered repair discount?
The 15% non-covered repair discount is a 15% discount off the contractors normal labor rate, paid directly to the contractor and offered by the contractor for repairs not covered under the HomeWIRE service.

Can I use a contractor of my choice to do repairs and still have it covered under the HomeWIRE service?
No, all HomeWIRE repairs are scheduled by one or our representatives. For repairs call, 1.888.999.8856. If repairs are completed without contacting Progress Energy, the customer would be fully responsible for all charges.

What happens if I cancel the service and then request reinstatement?
You can cancel at anytime, but there is a $150 reinstatement fee payable in full when you reinstate the service.

What happens if I move to a new home?
HomeWIRE service is automatically transferred to your new home when you move within Progress Energy's territory and there is no 30-day waiting period for covered repairs. If you do not want HomeWIRE service at your new residence, simply call 1.888.999.8856.

What is an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)?
An EVSE is a home charging station outlet/system installed in a garage or pre-determined outside location for charging a plug-in electric vehicle. EVSEs can vary in voltage and amperage based on what is available in your home and recommendation by the vehicle manufacturer.

Are Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment covered?
No, only the circuit and wiring that supplies service to the EVSE is covered for repair. An EVSE may be covered with an individual manufacturer warranty. For additional questions on your manufacturer warranty, please contact your supplier of the EVSE.

Do I have to be home when the plug-in electric vehicle charging station is installed?
Yes, arrangements for installation can be made at the time of installation/repair request with the Progress Energy representative.

Will the power be turned off during installation?
Yes, installation requires for the power to be turned off. The electrician may request that you turn off any major appliances or sensitive electronics prior to cutting the power.

Can I take the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment with me when I move?
Yes, but removal or disconnection would require an electrician to complete. For removal or disconnection call, 1.888.999.8856.
