I'm planning to dig in my yard. What number do I call to locate the underground utilities?
At least 48 hours prior to digging, contact the applicable One-Call Center to locate any underground public utilities, such as electric, phone, gas or cable, in your yard. There is no charge for this service. In North Carolina call (800) 632-4949. In South Carolina call 1-888-721-7877.

I'm building a new home and will need electric service. What do I need to do?
  • Make a request for construction and/or permanent electric service connection by using Progress Energy's online application for service by clicking on Service Requests or calling Progress Energy's Customer Service Center at 508-5400 (Raleigh area) or (800) 452-2777.


  • Have your meter base permanently installed by an electrician.


  • If you are requesting underground service, locate all of your existing underground utilities such as sprinkler systems, water lines, sewer lines, invisible dog fencing, landscape, lighting, septic tanks, etc., in the route of Progress Energy's proposed electric line.


  • Remove or clear all building materials, debris, trees, etc., so the necessary equipment can be used to install the underground service.


  • Complete grading of the site.


  • Contact your local city or county officials to obtain the required inspections.

How do I request Progress Energy to trim the trees around my power lines?
To place a tree-trim request for trees interfering with Progress Energy facilities please Contact Us, or call Progress Energy's Customer Service Center at 508-5400 (Raleigh area) or (800) 452-2777. For requests to trim or remove trees near the service line from the transformer to your home, Progress Energy will schedule a serviceperson to drop the service, so the tree can be removed without damaging your service entrance facilities.

How do I report a power outage?
To report an outage or to check on restoration efforts in your area, call Progress Energy's 24-hour Outage Line at (800) 419-6356.

My Progress Energy Safeshine area light is not working. How do I submit a repair request?
To report a problem with your SafeShine light, call Progress Energy's Customer Service Center at 508-5400 (Raleigh area) or (800) 452-2777. Please have your account information and pole number handy. Your light will normally be repaired within 48 hours of your request.
