Renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar energy, are playing an increasingly important role in meeting the nation’s energy needs.  Today, there are many renewable technologies that are commercially available to homeowners and businesses that can be safely interconnected to our electrical grid.   These resources are important to Progress Energy’s balanced approach to meeting our region’s growing electrical needs and helping to establish a cleaner energy future.

Progress Energy Carolinas customers who own their own electric power generation sources can interconnect to the Progress Energy system by following a step-by-step application process listed in the toolkits below.   In the Carolinas, two primary options are available for selling renewable energy:

Sell All
Customers may sell the total output of their renewable energy resources to Progress Energy Carolinas.   In North Carolina, customers under this arrangement may also be eligible to receive additional incentives from NC Green Power for output sold to the grid.  See the “Sell All Toolkit”.

Net Metering
Customers may offset their energy consumption with their own renewable resources, and reduce future consumption with any net power flowing back to Progress Energy Carolinas.  See the “Net Metering Toolkit”.
