What payment methods are available with EasyPay?
EasyPay accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, debit cards and electronic checks.
Why do you add $4.95 to my Progress Energy payment?
Progress Energy does not receive any of the proceeds of this fee. The $4.95 fee is what EasyPay charges for credit card/check transactions and processing costs.
Does the entire fee go directly to Progress Energy? Or, do I have to pay EasyPay separately?
When you pay by electronic check, Progress Energy receives an amount equal to your electric payment and EasyPay receives the $4.95 handling fee. The two charges will appear separately on your bank statement. If you're paying with a credit or debit card, Progress Energy will receive an amount equal to your electric payment and EasyPay will receive $4.95. The two amounts will be combined and appear as a single charge on your credit card statement.
I'm not used to paying other vendors a separate fee when I use a credit card. Why should I have to pay it now?
Other companies are able to add the price of processing to what they charge for their goods and services. As a regulated utility, we are not able to do that. By charging only the customers who use the EasyPay service the processing fee, it's a fairer way to pay for this convenient payment option. Only the customers who choose to pay through EasyPay will incur the fee. If the convenience fee could not be included as a separate charge, we would not be able to offer this additional payment option.
