What is required to sign up for the first time?
You need to have access to the Internet and a valid e-mail address. You will be prompted for your account number and PIN number (located on the left side of your bill above the meter readings), along with your bank account and bank transit/routing numbers. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete your enrollment.
When setting up my payment method (wallet), where can I find my bank's transit/routing number and checking account number?
The transit/routing number can be found in the lower left-hand side of your check. The checking account number appears to the right of the routing number. Note: if your financial institution has recently changed, these numbers may be different.
Can I arrange to pay from more than one bank account?
Yes. As long as you have the account information set up in your wallet, you can pay from checking and/or savings accounts.
Do you accept credit card payments through e-bill?
No. Only payments made via a valid checking account drawn on a U.S. bank are accepted. You can make a one-time payment using Visa, MasterCard or debit card via our Credit Card/Electronic Check payment method with a convenience fee of $5.95.
How will I be notified when my bill is available for viewing?
You will receive an e-mail notification that a new bill is available for viewing and payment.
Will I continue to receive my paper bill in the mail?
Once enrolled, paper bills are discontinued-that's part of the convenience of E-bill. Should you choose, you have the option to receive a monthly courtesy call advising you that your bill is ready for viewing.
If I have a disconnect notice on my account, can I still make online payments?
Yes, but if the payment is made after the due date you should contact Customer Service at (800) 700.8744 to make sure your service is not interrupted.
If I am making a payment dated today, can I cancel it after I have clicked on the "Submit" button?
Yes. You can cancel or edit a payment made prior to 4:30 p.m. EST. After that time, the payment will be processed as originally entered. Select the Payments tab, then Payment Activity to change/delete a payment.
When will my account reflect my payment?
Payments made Monday - Friday before 4:30 PM Eastern Time will post to your account the same day after 5:00 PM. Payments made after 4:30 PM will post to your account after 5:00 PM the next Progress Energy business day.
Can I still pay my bill by mail or at a paystation if I get an electronic bill?
E-bill allows you to conveniently pay your bill directly from your bank account. Paying your bill by mail or at a paystation after you begin receiving e-bills may delay the credit to your account.
I'm on Progress Energy's Automatic Draft Program. Can I also sign up for e-bill?
Yes, you can sign up for e-bill to receive and view your monthly bill online, but you should not pay your bill electronically because it's already being drafted from your bank account.
Is the e-bill service secure?
Yes. Progress Energy e-bill uses 128-bit encryption, which is the safest encryption method used on computers today. If needed, you can easily load 128-bit encryption for either Internet Explorer or Netscape.
I already use Quicken software. Is Progress Energy e-bill different from Quicken?
Progress Energy e-bill and Quicken technologies are compatible. You can receive and pay your Progress Energy bill electronically through both.
Will I continue to get Progress Energy's quarterly newsletter and other bill inserts?
Yes. These will be available as links on your e-bill. Other important information about your electric service is also available on our Web site.
What about late payments and extended due dates?
If you're unable to pay your bill on time, please call us to make arrangements. However, the same late payment charges and extended due date policies that apply to mailed bills also apply to e-bills.
