Additional Information

Zero Waste: Unlike other ash management solutions, the CBO process produces no waste. The highly consistent, low-carbon fly ash and recovered heat are its only products.

Offsets Emissions: Every ton of CBO-processed fly ash used in concrete, instead of Portland cement, reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about one ton.

Sustainable: The finished fly ash product is a perfect product for the growing movement toward converting wastes into usable materials.

Progress Materials, Inc., a subsidiary of Progress Fuels Corporation, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Progress Energy, has integrated its problem-solving skills, engineering capabilities and power plant expertise to create the patented Carbon Burn-Out (CBO™) technology.

The millions of tons of fly ash produced from coal-fired power plants have become increasingly difficult to landfill and recycle, but with CBO, Progress Materials has found a solution -- ReadyAsh.

Joe Cochran, a Progress Materials employee, invented this technology and received an award in 2003 from the National Energy Technology Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy.

CBO technology takes waste fly ash from coal-fired plants and "burns out" the residual carbon, producing ReadyAsh, which is a consistent, low-carbon, high-quality product of coal combustion proven to be valuable in the concrete industry. CBO is currently used at two plants in South Carolina, and two more plants are currently under construction.

For more information on CBO, please contact Progress Materials at 1-866-935-9274 or send an e-mail to pmi_info@pgnmail.com.
