What You Can Do
What We Are Doing

Renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar powered generators, are playing an increasingly important role in meeting the nation’s energy needs.   Today, there are many renewable technologies that are commercially available that can be safely interconnected to our electrical grid.   These resources are important to Progress Energy’s balanced approach to meeting our region’s growing electrical needs and helping to establish a cleaner energy future.

Customers who are interested in installing and selling the output of a renewable generator to Progress Energy must interconnect with our grid and execute agreements to receive payment for electricity produced.  These can be stand-alone systems such as a windmill or methane fueled generator, or even solar panels installed on a residence.  There are two primary options available for selling renewable energy along with a step-by-step process listed in the toolkits below:

Sell All
Customers may sell the total output of their renewable energy resources to Progress Energy Carolinas.    Under this arrangement, customers may also be eligible to receive additional incentives from NC Green Power for output sold to the grid.   See the Sell All Toolkit.

Net Metering
Customers may offset their energy consumption with their own renewable resources, and receive credit for any net power flowing back to Progress Energy Carolinas.   See the Net Metering Toolkit.
