The SunSmart Schools Program

Progress Energy Florida has partnered with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) on the SunSmart Schools Program since 2004. Fourteen schools throughout the company’s service territory have benefitted  to date:

SunSense and SunSmart Schools in Progress Energy Service Territory

Teachers work within their individual classrooms to conduct scientific experiments and mathematical computations based upon the PV system’s energy production. Students can track energy production from the PV system mounted at their school at a special website maintained by FSEC.

Students at Waterford Elementary in Orlando share their appreciation for the solar installation at their school that was supported by funding from Progress Energy’s SunSense schools program and the SunSmart Schools program.
