The EPA recommends that consumers take advantage of local recycling options for compact fluorescent light bulbs, where available. The EPA is working with CFL manufacturers and major U.S. retailers to expand disposal options. Download PDF.

What should I consider when replacing my air conditioning or heating unit?

A heat pump with a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) of 14 or greater and an HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) of at least 7.8 will help lower the heating and cooling portion of your electric bill. Depending on the efficiency level of the heat pump you install, and the existing system you are replacing, you may be eligible for an incentive.

There are a few Energy-Efficient Construction programs made for you: Home Advantage Energy Saver, which ensures homes are properly sealed to prevent air duct leakage; Home Advantage Energy Saver Plus, which goes a step further by improving ducts and insulation; and the Home Advantage Premium Energy Saver/ENERGY STAR program, which reaches the highest standard in new home energy efficiency.
