Upgrade your insulation. Save on heating and cooling costs.

Check your insulation. Here's why:

  • Heating and cooling can account for almost half of your total energy bill.
  • Poor insulation requires your heating and cooling system to have to work harder, which increases your energy bill.
  • After about 15 years, attic insulation settles and becomes thinner, which reduces its insulating barrier and its ability to keep hot air out of your conditioned space.

Proper insulation will save you money on your heating and cooling costs.

  • Progress Energy may also help you pay for part of the cost of your insulation upgrade.
  • If you live in a concrete block home, we also offer an incentive for injected foam wall insulation. Ask your Energy Advisor for more details.

Federal tax credits available! Through 2010, there is a 30 percent federal tax credit up to a $1,500 maximum issued for the installation of attic insulation. Click here to verify the requirements.

A free Progress Energy Home Energy Check within the past 24 months with a qualifying recommendation is a prerequisite to qualify for all incentives.

ATTIC INSULATION
It pays to know your insulation's R-value.

An insulation's R-value is a measure of its effectiveness and signifies its ability to resist heat flow. For instance, it's more difficult for heat to pass through insulation rated R-19 than rated R-11.

If your insulation is less than R-12:
Upgrade to R-19 insulation or greater, and we'll pay $75 plus 5¢ per square foot of living space over 1,500 square feet.

Upgrade to R-30 insulation or greater, and we'll pay $100 plus 7¢ per square foot of living space above 1,500 square feet.

If your insulation is between R-12 and R-15:
Upgrade to R-30 insulation or greater. We'll pay you $75 plus 7¢ per square foot of living space above 1,500 square feet.

Proper insulation materials must be installed in accordance with Progress Energy standards and by a contractor meeting all Progress Energy requirements.
