How EnergyWise works
  • Progress Energy will arrange (at no cost to you) to have a small device installed at your home, and connect it to electric equipment you choose, such as your water heater and your central heating or cooling system.
  • The device makes it possible to temporarily reduce energy consumption if our community experiences an unusually high power demand. If that happens, a signal can be sent to cycle power off and on to select equipment of some of the more than 400,000 EnergyWise participants throughout our system. This shared effort lowers the impact to any one customer.
  • The cycles are limited in duration and to certain times of day according to a schedule designed with your comfort in mind.
  • Participation is totally voluntary, and there is no penalty should you ever wish to leave the regular year-round or winter-only programs.
  • When you participate, you'll see a credit on your Progress Energy bill whenever your monthly electric usage is above 600 kWh. The savings are automatic for as long as you're enrolled in the program.1

1Credits will be issued monthly when total electric usage is 600 kWh or higher. Credits are prorated according to usage above 600 kWh. Depending on the program selected, participants must have centrally ducted electric heating and cooling, or heating and water heating.

 

 



Four convenient program options:

1. Year-round:
Earn credits all year long by enrolling your central electric heating and AC in the year-round EnergyWise program. For maximum monthly credits—up to $14 in winter and up to $11 in summer—include your electric water heater and pool pump.

2. Winter only:
Earn credits of up to $11.50 November 1 - March 1 by enrolling your central electric heating system and electric water heater in the program.

3. Upgrade to boost your savings:
By expanding to the year-round program or adding additional eligible systems to the program, current participants can maximize the opportunity for EnergyWise savings.

4. Add solar for ultimate savings:
Interested in really going green—and saving green? Earn an upfront credit of $450, plus up to $60 a year in EnergyWise savings by enrolling in EnergyWise and installing a solar water heater.2 You may also be eligible for state and federal incentives of up to $2,500.3 What's more, solar water heating systems can cut your water heating costs by 85 percent.

2Customers are required to participate in the year-round EnergyWise program and purchase a new solar water heater to be eligible for these credits and rebates. Other restrictions may apply.

3Federal tax credits are currently available through Dec. 31, 2016; State rebate is contingent upon FDEP fiscal budget.
