What is SolarWise for Schools?
- SolarWise for Schools is a special fund created by Progress Energy that purchases solar energy (photovoltaic) systems for Florida schools.
- SolarWise for Schools provides teachers with energy-related curriculum and students with a valuable, interactive learning tool for renewable energy education.
How can I participate in SolarWise for Schools?
Supporting SolarWise for Schools is easy and requires no out-of-pocket contributions.
Step 1: Enroll in Progress Energy's
EnergyWise program.
Step 2: Sign up for the SolarWise for Schools option.
- EnergyWise offers monthly credits on your energy bill.*
- When you sign up for the SolarWise for Schools option,
your EnergyWise monthly credits — which could total over $145 a year — are automatically contributed to the SolarWise for Schools fund.**
How does EnergyWise work?
- Enroll in EnergyWise and Progress Energy will arrange (at no cost to you) to have a small device installed at your home, usually in the garage. The device is connected to electric equipment you choose, such as your water heater and your central heating or cooling system.
- This device makes it possible to temporarily reduce energy consumption when a signal is sent to cycle power off and on to the select equipment of some of the more than 400,000 EnergyWise participants throughout our system. This shared effort lessens the impact to any one customer and reduces the overall energy demand.
The benefits of supporting SolarWise for Schools.
- You'll help educate future generations about renewable energy.
- The more systems you enroll in EnergyWise (electric water heater/heating/cooling/pool pump), the greater contribution you can make to SolarWise for Schools.
- All of your EnergyWise contributions go directly toward the SolarWise for Schools program.
