Progress Energy sends crews to assist with outage restoration following historic Northeast snowstorm

RALEIGH (Oct. 30, 2011) -- Progress Energy has deployed approximately 200 company employees and contractors to assist with power restorations in northern states following a historic snowstorm that hit the region over the weekend and left millions without power. Crews assembled Sunday morning and began their journey around midday. Progress Energy teams will be provide assistance to PECO and PPL in Pennsylvania, and Con Edison in New York. Crews will travel on Sunday and are expected to begin work on Monday.

Progress Energy maintains mutual assistance agreements with peer utilities to request or provide assistance following major storms. Progress Energy supplied crews to utilities in Alabama and Georgia earlier this year following a series of deadly tornadoes in April. The utility also received restoration assistance from peer utilities following Hurricane Irene in August.
