  • Reliability

    Duke Energy safely generates reliable and affordable electricity from a diverse fuel portfolio, including nuclear, coal, gas, oil and hydroelectric power, at 32 sites in the Carolinas and Florida.

    Our installed generation capacity includes 47 percent natural gas and oil, 33 percent coal, 19 percent nuclear and 1 percent hydroelectric. This fuel diversity enables the company to minimize cost impacts from any one fuel source and ensures reliable power for our residential, commercial, industrial and wholesale customers.

    Providing continuous power is important to your business and a top priority for our company.  To achieve this, we constantly monitor and look for ways to improve our power quality and reliability. 

  • Rate Options

    Duke Energy offers a variety of rates for business and industry. We have small, medium and large general service schedules including time-of-use choices. Additionally, a number of economic development riders are available for qualifying customers to reduce costs even further.

    Economic Development Rider

    North Carolina
    South Carolina

    • Provides customers expanding in N.C. or S.C. discounted demand charges over a 5-year period.
    • Must be adding 1,000 kW of new load, and either create 75 new jobs or make a capital investment of $400,000.

    Economic Redevelopment Rider

    North Carolina
    South Carolina

    • Provides qualified customers locating in a Duke Energy-served vacant building in N.C. or S.C. a 50 percent discount for contract demands of 1,000 kW or greater and a 25 percent discount for contracts demands of 999 kW or less on electricity used during the first year of occupancy. 
    • Building occupied must have been vacant for a minimum of 60 days and the business must be adding 500 kW or more.
    • Business must either create 35 new jobs or make a capital investment of $200,000 and add full-time jobs.
    • Operational date must be no later than 12 months after the service is initiated and the program requires a 5-year contract.

     Commercial/Industrial Service Rider (CISR)


    • Requires a minimum 500 kW of new load or retention of 500 kW existing load for customers in Fla. whose current load is less than 10,000 kW.
    • In order to qualify, candidates must provide documentation showing they have a viable lower cost alternative to taking electric service from Duke Energy.
    • Qualifying applicants will receive a discounted electric rate calculated on a case-by-case basis.
    • Qualifying applicants must sign a contract with Duke Energy, term to be negotiated.

    • Premier Power Service – from design and installation through day-to-day operations, we take care of your backup generation needs
      • Tariffed Service – available to customers as a rider to one of the general service schedules.
      • Complete Outsourced Solution – Duke Energy designs, permits, installs, owns, operates and maintains a backup generator system on the utility side of the electric motor.
      • Flat Fee on Monthly Electric Bill – Duke Energy provides up-front capital; customer pays a flat monthly fee over a 10-year contract that covers capital cost and operating expenses.
