As part of Duke Energy's commitment to continuous improvement in service and reliability, the company is currently replacing meters for a limited group of commercial customers whose meters are still manually read each month.
Improving the efficiency of our meter-reading processes and equipment has long been a company priority. Most meters on our system were upgraded in 2005-2006. Our current project affects only selected commercial customers whose meters were not previously updated.

Changing meters to better serve our customers is something we do every day. These new meters will eliminate the need for manual meter reading, creating greater convenience for individual customers and efficiency for the company.
Most electric meters on our system have already been changed to digital technology. However, due to the individual characteristics of certain meters, a small number could not previously be upgraded.
Now, thanks to new technology, we are able to offer most remaining commercial customers the greater convenience and efficiency of digital meters that will allow electronic meter reading.
The current meter project will be completed by the end of 2013.
Customers receiving the new meters will not be billed for this new equipment or installation service.
Only a limited group of commercial customers will be affected by this meter upgrade.
If you are one of them, you will receive a letter with specific information about when we will change out the meter and how to contact us with questions.
